Bartha Contemporary is delighted to announce their second participation at the international Artfair Art Genève in 2016. The fair takes place at Palexpo next to the Airport of Geneva from 28 to 31 January 2016.

Among the works selected for Art Genève 2016 is Stefana McClure’s 2012-13 series of 23 drawings entitled “Science is FICTION” depicting the complete subtitles of 23 films by marine biologist and cinematic pioneer Jean Painlevé.

In McClure’s suite of ‘Science is FICTION’ drawings the subtitles to twenty-three of Painlevé’s magical films are superimposed, concentrated and concealed in two shimmering bands at the bottom of otherwise uninterrupted monochromatic fields. Letters, in their original typeface and screen placement, are relentlessly accumulated and stacked upon themselves, coalescing in a super-condensed version of each film’s dialogue. These abstractions, characterized by the distillation of time and the obliteration and reconstruction of information, are tangible manifestations of film.

A suite of works by Alan Johnston currently on view at the Mies van der Rohe Haus Museum in Berlin, referencing the architecture of this masterpiece building by the legendary architect Mies van der Rohe. These works will be shown alongside some earlier pieces by Johnston, that were made in preparation for the artist’s ceiling-drawing at Tate Britain in London and his exhibitions at the Inverleith House in Edinburgh.
The Swiss launch of two publications documenting Alan Johnston’s exhibition at the Mies van der Rohe Haus as well as the artist’s commission at Tate Britain will take place at Bartha Contemporary’s both at Art Genève.

Alongside the group-presentation Bartha Contemporary is proud to announce a solo-show by Swiss artist Beat Zoderer, which will feature a series of works that describe the geometric elements of circles and spheres. A new series of works will premiere at Art Genève. Referencing many elements of preceding suites including his 2016 Series Quadratur des Kreises and Kriesdreiecke (IMAGE INCLUDED). Works from both these series will also form part of the presentation.
Beat Zoderer’s works have been described as “correct errors”, while maintaining our attention each piece evolves as the viewer moves around a work. First seeming systematic and precise, the pieces reveal a multitude of hidden and unexpected qualities upon closer inspection.
Materiality has always been at the heart of Zoderer’s concerns; he works with a broad spectrum of materials, including everyday objects ranging from wool and thread, to photo-paper, tin and PVC. Zoderer’s process takes him from one media to another, whether its drawing, sculpture, or installation. Through his diverse practice and spontaneous way of working, Zoderer continues to question the aesthetic parameters of art, assesses its validity and pursues a continuous balance between art, reflection and reality.



Bartha Contemporary London was founded by Swiss-German couple Niklas and Daniela von Bartha in January 2000. The gallery relocated to its current ground-floor space in Fitzrovia in the heart of central London in early 2012. The program has a strong emphasis on non-figurative and conceptual contemporary art. The gallery regularly participates at international art-fairs.

The fifth edition will be held from the 28th to the 31st of January, a key period for luxury tourism in Geneva and strategic dates in the art fair calendar.
