Sarah Chilvers
Born 1970
Lives and works in Wales, UK
Sarah Chilvers is known for her systematic drawings emerging from radiating lines and blocks of colour. Emanating from a central point, Chilvers' often-circular works of varying scale form a key element of Chilvers' practice. Continuing along a similar theme, the artist’s sculptures explore three-dimensional space more literally. Playfully juxtaposing the accuracy of the composition with found materials consciously breaks with the mantra of precision as a means of fulfilment. Although the artist also makes work through video, photography and temporary installations, it is these drawings and sculptures which best showcase the artist’s inherent understanding of composition. Sarah Chilvers was born in 1970. She lives and works in mid Wales.

Chilvers is known for systematic drawings built from radiating lines and blocks of colour that emanate from a central point, often taking circular form across varying scales. Her sculptures extend this investigation into three-dimensional space, incorporating found materials that consciously introduce an element of play against the precision of her compositions. She also works in video, photography, and temporary installation.
Her solo exhibitions include presentations at Bartha Contemporary, London (2023), John Jones Projections, London (2009), and Zielke Gallery, Berlin (1994, 1997).
